How to curl short hair without curling iron?

my hair is naturally pretty straight with curls at the end, and its short, about to my shoulders, the curling iron makes them REALLY curly and go all the way up to my head and i look stupid. i guess im going for a more wavvy look. i been usually waking up and hairspraying it to death until it curls. ( i know its bad) what can i do to curl it without making it hard and sticky?

Did you ever try curling your hair with a straightening iron? The curls can be made looser and look more natural.

After blow drying your hair and using for example a serum and protective spray as you would with a curling iron divide your hair into sections. Starting at the bottom take a section of hair about an inch wide and going close to your scalp clamp your hair. Turn the iron around on itself and pull the iron through to the ends of your hair.

After each couple of curls spray with hair spray. Note that the slower you move the iron through your hair the tighter the curl. If you want looser more natural curls run your fingers through them at the end.

Alternatively you can create loose curls while blow drying by using small round brushes and leaving them in for a little while when drying or simply scrunching mousse or serum into wet hair.xxHow to curl short hair without curling iron?
Use a curling iron with the spiral going around it. Don't curl by just rolling up your hair in a straight roll. Curl it by spiraling your hair around the iron from bottom to top. When it comes out it should be a long loose spiral as opposed to a pin curl right up to the top of your head.

If you really want to get away from the iron, try pining medium sized rolls of hair up to your head after washing (use bobby pins), sleep on it and in the morning blow dry with pins still in place, just to heat them up and set a bit more. Take out the pins gently and you should have some natural looking curls.
Try steam curlers or old-fashioned sponge curlers.

Also, before you go to sleep at night, try a variation of a pin curl. You can experiment by taking 1/4 inch strands of your hair, twisting your hair into tight coils, and bobby-pinning each individual hair coil in an X formation using bobby pins. Sleep on these curls and take out the bobby pins in the morning and you should achieve a wavy look without the use of hairspray. I have found the last technique to be especially helpful for my wavy-straight hair.

Additionally, you can buy a curling iron with a larger barrel. It sounds like your curling iron is skinny, which is the cause for kinky-tight curls.
One of my friends with straight hair sprays Fekkai Beach Waves spray on it so make it wave. It's kind of expensive but it works well.

Other similar products include:

John Frieda Beach Blonde Ocean Waves

Sunsilk Waves of Envy, Sea Mist (a cheaper option, only $3)

My hair is naturally curly, but whenever I go to the beach and get it wet with salt water, it curls great!

Also, if you take a flat iron (like a Chi), you can make soft waves instead of super bouncy curls. The video below gives a tutorial:

i dont know how well your hair holds a curl, but for my hair in order to have a decent curl *tight curls* after my shower, i have to take my hair and put it in a couple of buns..*the qty of buns will change depending on how tight of a curl you want* and let it dry, one bun will give you a loose curl, however 4+ buns will give you tighter curls. it works better if done overnight. i personally dont like using rollers, my hair is thick and it takes a ton of them to get all over curl, so this works pretty good for me.
You could get an extra large curling iron.

Or if your hair is naturally curly at the ends, maybe putting mousse in it when its damp would bring out more curl.

Or you could get a diffuser for your blow dryer and try that after putting mousee in it when its damp.. (But you'd have to make sure you used a product to protect your hair from the heat.)

Hope this helps!
After you shower and dry slighty with towel, curl with your finger untill hair is dry and to set the curls use gel or hairspray. Just keep curling your hair in different strands or put it in a bun and blow dry the bun untill your hair is dry.
i would use the really big conair overnight curlers they are pink and have the foam so theyre no to bad to sleep on and really hairspray is when you put it in there so they will come out fairly tight and then brush it out that will make it wavier and it wont be stiff from the hairspray.
easy answer:::: paper bag technique.

(you need ur hair wet)

you take paper bags and rip them into strips

then you wrap ur hair around them

tie at the end however high you want them

let them dry or blow dry them if ur in a hurry

take them out carefully

and u have waves

hope it helps ;)
The key here is to go large. Use the largest size curling iron or the largest size of hot rollers. If you use the really big ones, your hair won't curl into little ringlets, it'll take on a really pretty, soft wave.
shower at night before you go to bed and then braid your hair into three different braids. sleep on it and then in the morning take out the hair ties and your hair should look great. optional: spray on some hairspray to lock in the look.
Try gel, but make sure to mix the gel with some warm water in your hand to thin it out a bit so that it doesn't end up too sticky. Try different amounts until you see what works with your hair.
use scrunching moose...and hairspray that is for FREEZE type hold. itll get hard though

please return?

I remember my mom getting socks and rolling the end of the hair on the socks and tie looks kind of dumb but curls beautifully.let me know if you try it
Try getting a perm, not one that makes little tight curls, but a looser wavy one, I know they can do that.
AFTER YOU SHOWER FLIP IT AROUND WHILE WET SCRUNCH IT, SLEEP ON IT WHEN YOU WAKE UP IT WILL LOOK CRIMPED AND CULY AND PERTY
Try a flat iron and just curl/flip it up on the ends.
Tie fabric in it while its wet, dry it, untie it, and you've got curls.
Use the straightner, thats wat i do and i works great!!!!! and if u dont know how, go to youtube and they'll show u.
Try hot rollers. It works well in straight hair and looks very natural.
Instead of curling iron, get hot rollers. They're much better than curling iron!
use mini rollers. and then take them out and it will be curly. then brush and apply hairspray (: ! or french braid ur hair over night...
I use gel but that makes it sticky too so I have no clue sorry.
Try using a round brush and a blow dryer.
Bobbie pens, velcro rollers, all work.
Braid it when your hair is wet and sleep in it. it will crimp it?
gel maybe or like braid it tightly than let go
put it in a braid
crimp it if u want it wavy(:
my sister does it......but i dont know how....sorry
